I rescanned the above articles and Dunny and company will have a task ahead of them no doubt. The one thing "I did not see" (if it there slap my hand and send me to the corner) was out and out donations to assist expense of pre-creation of the game.

I am not trying to stir up an old settled post. Again send the dwarf to a corner if I am.

and if this topic is settled, upon reading it I will say no more.

*AT THIS TIME - are you considering accepting No Stings Attached donations which would be used to assist in hardware and software costs...?
Even a dollar here or there has to help...

AND Anyone thinking these donations would get them something in the game ... POOH on them.

I figured I would throw this little idea in here.

Why not have an auction for the naming rights to a server. Say every three months hold a public auction to get to name a server. It could generate some revenue, I would bid on it or sure.

Just tying to be creative.

I had considered this a while back, and I thought long and hard on it. I chose not to take donations before I had something to show for them. Honestly, I just wouldn't expect anyone to foot the cost of something that had even the slightest chance of not happening, then where would they be.. out money for something that never happened. It happens all the time with companies taking investments on a chance, then people lose out when it doesn't pan out. So I decided that I would foot the start up costs as best I could (even if the end result would ultimately be slower). I have thought about it again with the purchase of newer servers, but the amount that would probably be donated would probably not be enough to really make a dent in the cost anyway. The thought is appreciated, but I just would rather not take money up front and not let anyone down in the long term. That is not to say that I wouldn't give it a thought, just that I shy away from that based on those reasons.


As for the auction idea.. I am not looking to have different servers with different uses... the servers for DoI (as it stands now) will all be for chat/voice/zones etc. basically different shards for different zones or what have you. I feel that this is the easiest way to keep the game moving at a good rate across the many countries that it has to go through on our journey through little iskirra. Good idea though.. maybe modify it to be for a storyline contest in the future where the story will get told in the game at some point *shrugs* who knows?

I think it's the most fair if you just make it P2P, but like some other small mmo's just ask like 5$ instead of 15$, something around 0.15$ a day can't be to much for anyone to pay and this way we all contribute as much ans anyone else does.

A lot of kids play too, with parents that won't pay. I had that problem when I wanted gentry a couple years ago.

Same. My parents refused to pay any sort of monthly type of bill for a game. I had to pay for gentry myself when I became old enough to make my own money. Ironically enough my dad ended up playing rubies and bought himself gentry. Personally I'd be willing to pay something like $5 a month, but I know there are several in the community that either have parents who won't be willing to pay or spouses/girlfriends/boyfriends that aren't too fond of the idea. For that reason I'm against it, but we could of course implement a subscription for specific benefits for those who can pay. We could offer that alongside gentry, or simply offer it as a way of paying for gentry over time. You'd end up paying a bit more over the year, but $5 is a lot more manageable for most people than a flat $50 fee mid-week.

Here's a thing about P2P.

You will lose a good chunk of your playerbase unless if it is rather cheap. If you are to make it P2P, it has to be GOOD. The developers have to know its GOOD (as they should display confidence for any of their works). I'm not too sure on how much we would need to run the game, but would we have enough supporters to pay the costs? And can we generate enough playerbase to keep the game up if it is in fact P2P? Can I afford it? (No, I really cant)

Now, here's an idea that is used by a few games. We'll call it Volx Points (VP for short).

So what people must do to earn this VP is to buy it. With VP, you can get access to special items, costumes, armor, weapons, the whole nine yards that normal players cannot get to without purchasing VP. So, with these special items being used in the game by the people purchasing these items, it will tempt others to do so.

Now RoE was done in a slightly similar manner (except there were no points, just a status change and a few ups....and some items that really were nothing special except the ring), which is why so little people donated. That is jus my two cents.

id like to see for ppl that pay a monthly fee for the game increased chance for gathering items for crafting. a simple bludgeon and/or shield like gentry knife thats permabound to each char. pay for global chat is an awesome idea but u know me id rather be able to rant anytime i wanted to. also any items that dont give players an unfair advantage as far as im concerned are fair play. namechange, skill reset(unless its allowed ingame) armor color changes(only a few) but not ones given in events.

having a skill reset in a game to pay for allows players to find the playstyle they like and gives a decent amount of cashflo over every account in the long run. chargin 5-10$ for something like this is mediocre in actual cost of the game but over time it will add up over every char a player makes and isnt asking too much at all imo.

I think that if you pay for an account, or make a donation, or purchase these Items from the store, or whatever, that you should get an appearance armor slot. this way, you can equip good looking armor in that slot, and use the stats, and armor rating from the currently equipped armor without it looking like something from WoW with mismatched armor and weapons.
