and chains would probally be the longest distance melee weapons 5+ feet.

whips should be even longer than chains, i think they are the longest melee weapons.

i actually think we have all the melee skills covered, one thing i'd like to see is a two-handed skill line kinda like big wep users duel wield line, this could essentially double up with sword for example making you more effective with 2h swords, would also balance out on the DW debates somewhat <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Chains are more a terror weapon. They inflict more terror than damage.

Take a length of chain 5 feet long, swing this around, it is slow to swing and someone can step inside close where it hits softly. Cut the bs from movies and chains are ineffective. A light chain moves quicker but hits less. Taken further and one moves to a whip, now whips can cut open bare skin like a knife, but on armour and whips get laughed at. Chains are similar. Even take the chains used in movies - they are light chains, and much shorter than 5 feet as 5 feet long is too long and hard to control. An action ma film and if someone is using a chain effectively it is a short light chain, usually much < 1 mtr long and being used against unarmoured opponents. Take a wrestling person like the wrestler hercules used to swing a piece of chain about 10-12 feet long, this being apparnetly about 30-50 pounds of chain, and he was having trouble controling the weight - this from a guy weighing over 300 pounds who bench pressed apparently 1000 pounds, a few swings around with the chain and he would be worn out. The end of the chain would be swing over 100kph, but the centre was almost stationary.

Now a short piece of light chain to give leverage, but not too much length like a mace - now we have a heavy object that can impact/damage though armour. But just a chain - not much of a weapon Vs armour.

whips can definitely be longer. although a bullwhip averages 2m, world record of whip cracking exceeds 50m.

ive seen ppl crack 4m, 5m whips with ease. doubt u could do that with a length of chain.

hmm, i smell rangecap...

it could be used, although i dont like it, with the regular rangeweapon rangecap, with a maxrange too, then it would be good... although, as i said, i dont like the idea, i like the game as it is with its different weaponclasses

The chains I'm talking about usally have weights on the end or
think of it this way someone is running away and you grapple them around the neck, so you choke them, and when you start swinging a chain it becomes easier the faster you go, thats phisics.

first off remember this is an rpg not real life and second about stamina you could make a passive abilty for chains magical stamina in which it slowly drains your magic before your stamina if we had Stamina in this game.

And a sling does what exactly to armor? And your going to get a dagger into plate armor? Lets not get into what punching someone with cloth wrapped around your hand is going to do to someone in armor (breaking your own hand i would imagine).... This game is not about reality Blue.

Better to think of a whip made from the hides of mythical creatures like Scytherans and Lisks. Maybe this whip, with a chunck of mythical norium metal on the tip, would do great damage to armor? A bullwhip breaks the sound barrier it hits with such speed, thus the cracking sound. I already have to use my imagination with alot of the weapons in the game. I think it is a nice idea.

What about the boomerang as a weapon? Or like the thing OddJob threw in that James Bond film, a slicing disc?... Can make it a boomerang/discus weapon? Or what did Raphael use from the ninja turtles? Those three pronged short little dagger-like things? I cant think of many new weapons.... Can tease polearms out into sub-categories...
